In Memory of David A. Hilliard

1951 – 2016

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Hilliard after a brief illness, on October 4, 2016.

Dave began his career in real estate in 1976, selling rural and residential property in Langley.  He enjoyed the work and was particularly interested in property valuation.  In 1980, he enrolled in the Appraisal Program at Langara College and went on to achieve his AACI (Accredited Appraiser of the Canadian Institute) designation. After graduation, he began working for a small appraisal company that also provided property acquisition and right of way consulting services. As he became more involved with the consulting side of the business, he decided to pursue this aspect, combining his previous experience with negotiations and his strength in appraisal.

Dave had always dreamed of owning his own business and on March 24, 1995, his dream became a reality when he incorporated Hilliard Property Services Ltd. and began providing comprehensive real estate services.  The company name was changed on April 3, 1998 to Milestone Property Services Ltd. and the business continued to grow under his leadership. His wife Karin joined the business as a partner and they worked closely together on many projects.

Throughout his career, he continued his education and professional development and earned the SR/WA (Senior Right of Way Agent) and RI (Real Estate Institute of BC) designations and served as the Associate Broker for Milestone Property Services Ltd. for many years. Dave provided consulting services to many clients including: Surrey, Langley, Coquitlam, Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure, Forestry, Metro Vancouver, Telus, Hydro, private companies and individuals.

Dave was well respected by his colleagues and was known for his comprehensive technical knowledge, organization skills and his ability to deliver on large, complex projects.

Dave was a family man.  He is survived by his wife Karin, his four daughters, Diane, Katie, Lisa and Carly and his grandson Gage.
